The key to intestinal health… and in many ways the health of the whole body—is how well  the toxins and built-up debris you have ingested are eliminated. For the colon—which includes the anus, rectum, and the whole lower abdomen—Taoists highly recommend regular cleansing practices to clear out any buildup of toxins. The most important of these practices are colonics.  Taoism teaches that organs are paired and support each other. The lower intestines are paired with the lungs, and in general, breathing deeply and mindfully—by expanding the lower abdominals to draw air into and thus expand the lungs, and then flattening the abdominal muscles to push the used air out of the body—helps to activate and repair all of the body’s natural eliminative processes. Any type of chi kung or aerobic exercise will help the elimination process by activating the lungs, which then activate their paired organ which includes the colon. Conversely, when you clean out the colon you will also improve the health of your lungs and improve your breathing.

COLONICS
Colonics are used to flush the colon with water in order to clear out impacted food waste and debris. There are two main types of colonics—an open-ended type you control yourself and a closed-end type administered by a massage therapist.

The open-ended colonic process involves the insertion into the rectum of a thin-tipped hose, which is connected to a container filled with lukewarm water, which may include coffee. The water is then gravity fed through the tube into the colon where it is retained and is then combined with an abdominal massage before being evacuated.

The closed-end colonic device operated by a colon therapist who inserts a hose with a metal tip into the rectum which sends water into the colon under regulated pressure. Abdominal massage is then used and finally suction is applied to help to pull the evacuated debris out. Coffee is used in place of water in the final cleansing.

The process of a colonic is similar to a mouthwash, except that it happens in the colon. You wash the internal skin of the colon and also release any blockages. But whereas the closed-end type uses a machine to push water in and flush it back out, the open-ended type relies on gravity and the actual rectal muscles to eliminate the water solution and its accompanying debris

If you have never cleansed your colon or rectum, and have been building up toxins for years, you can imagine what you must have inside your colon. You need to cleanse this area of the body just as you do the other end of the alimentary canal (the throat, mouth and teeth). When you cleanse your colon your body will begin eliminating a lot of excess body fat and harmful acids.
